Repost from Audiokarma but showing how I spent my summer. The long and short of it is… Big old school Dynaco Power paired with classic Klipsch sound with a twist. (Big thanks to Dave for the idea). In my guest room Im using a switch I made… Ill be able to alternate between an ampandsound new mono block Im in process of working out and amp and some old school Dynaco power. The Dynaco MKIII story: Although I love SE amps, I have a special place in my heart for Dynaco products and love the no nonsense grunt of the […]

I’ve always lusted after Industrial La Scalas. I bought a pair that were lovingly cared for but was reminded why I didn’t keep any if the La Scalas that have come home with me. The mid horn nearly caused blood to drop from my ear. Feeling more ambitious I called. I called up Dave from Fastlane audio and Al from ALK engineering, with the goal of turning the La Scala’s into two ways with serious fidelity. Out went the original crossovers, horns, and drivers. In their stead an Fastlane Eliptrac Trac 400 was stuffed into place. It was paired with […]

Review by joessportster on the Klipsch User Forum: I am currently auditioning this very animal using my HiFiMan He500, I am thinking REFERENCE level amplification………… This is the builder Justin Weber’s variant on the Darling circuit using the 1626 tube at 3/4wpc it is driving my phones easily as good as my 3wpc EL84 tube amp. The amp is the most revealing I have heard, all the nuance in vocals shines through with ease, I have always associated SET with romantic / warm / syrup…………….Not the case here with ZERO feedback this thing is as crisp and neutral as one […]

From Joespride on Audiokarma.org forum: My History: I am 49 years old and have been an audio enthusiast since I was 10 years old, when I was old enough and joined the military for my first real job, my first purchase was a Sansui stereo, I loved that thing till it died, Once i Hit Germany my eyes were opened to a whole new level of audio. I left Germany with onkyo m504, and P-308 running infinity sm150 much to my neighbors chagrin………fast forward to 2004 and an audition of a friends tubes and Klipsch K-Horns. and audio took a […]

I only recently met Justin Weber through his company “Ampsandsound” and just completed a purchase on a beautiful set of speakers as an upgrade to my audio system. I really can’t say enough about how positive the experience was on multiple levels. First, with the huge advancements made over the past few years with respect to audio I had resigned myself to the purchase of a “name brand” set of speakers wherein current gear was compiled by the source (theoretically) with match and synergy. Just before pulling the trigger on a set I happened upon (by reference from a knowledgeable […]

Big Ben Review By 2Bmusic: It has taken me awhile to post this. Lots of personal issues that had to be resolved. At any rate, I just wanted to say thank you to Justin Weber for the advise, and helping me to get my system set up, running and sounding great. There are many wonderful vendors here. Justin is certainly one of them. After much reading and question asking, I decided on SET Big Ben to power my LaScalas. BB is incredible and the sound is everything I have been waiting for some 3 score or more. Justin flat out […]

Kenzie Amp Review by C.L.Skoog I received my Kenzie amp from Justin two days ago. It arrived, superbly packaged and on-time. I have been spinning vinyl since 1967. In 1990, I started my CD collection but never quit my analog hobby for vinyl. I have been fortunate enough to be able to demo many tube and solid-state amps over the years. I have demoed McIntosh, Manley Labs and many other hi-end amps costing $10,000 or more. At this point I own a 2005 Manley Labs Sting Ray that is wired in triode and also a Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum with […]

From Klipsch User Forum. Author: joshnich as he give his own Little Ben review. I am the happy owner of an ampsandsound little ben amplifier. Having read Joe and Deans review of the SE84 amp I was compelled to call Justin to purchase one as I figured it would be great for the office. After discussion with Justin, we settled on his “little ben”. I had the choice of a few different tubes and ended up with the EL 34. Any more information on exactly what the differences are between his various options would have to come from him. In […]

Ryan has been tremendously busy in the shop veneering and building new plinths for orders heading out. We have begun using more exotic hardwoods including Sapele and African Mahogony. I’ve been in a bit of a lull waiting for parts. We have Top plates on order and are awaiting new test transformers for some projects we are fleshing out.

Started By joessportster, Feb 23 2014 07:53 AM I recently acquired Justins design prototype For his Full Ranger speaker at ampsandsound.com, Mine differs from the version he is now selling on his website in that mine is a little bigger and ported, His finished design is transmission line cabinet, which in theory should make it even better than mine. I also want to restate Justin is one of the finest people I have met, If you order from Justin you can expect outstanding service and impeccable shipping / packing took me an hour to unpack the speakers and the amp, and I […]

Started By joessportster, Feb 22 2014 01:14 PM First off I want to start with a summary of my experience dealing with Justin of ampsandsound.com, Through hundreds of audio deals on several sites I can honestly say I have never had a better experience. Justin is far and away one of the most thoughtful and genuine people i have met in this hobby or anywhere else for that matter. He not only cares more about music and how his products perform than he seems to care about money, He also shows great compassion for the people he meets, which is a rare […]

Started By jbsl, Feb 04 2014 07:56 PM Justin Weber from Amps and sound gave me a discount on a pre production model Stereo 15 he had and I have been enjoying it for the last 5 days now. I do not have a preamp so first I hooked my Oppo 103 up to the Stereo 15(ST 15) and used the volume control on the Oppo remote with very good results. Next I tried the passive preamp Justin provided with about the same results as the O 103. Finally I tried the pre out of my Denon 4800 with the best results. […]

Started By bracurrie, Jan 30 2014 04:52 PM My family thinks I have gone off the deep end. I believe I am too old for a mid-life crisis (although I am not low-T). I just bought another tube amplifier. That make five so far. Plus the loaner then its six. OK, OK I know there are few of you that have been through more but for me its a lot. I got a tip a while back from someone on the forum about Justin Weber and his fledgling enterprise making tube amplifiers called ampsandsound. The information from the web site with a […]

Started By DeanG, Jan 21 2014 11:31 PM: I enjoy my weekly call from Dave Harris since it always provides an opportunity for a good rant. This is cheap entertainment for Dave, and I’m pretty sure it’s the main reason he calls. Sometimes we’re forced to talk business, since we often share customers, and other times we actually talk about the things that make music sound better. “So, I’ve got this amp over here.” “What is it?” “A tube amp.” “I’m sick of tube amps.” “You might like this one.” “I like all tube amps, but I’m still sick of them.” “This […]

Earlier this week on the way to work I received my third speeding ticket this year. Rather than blame the distance or my lack of time management. I’m choosing to lay sole blame on Paul Simon and his Graceland album. I have an incredibly large music collection but seem to really enjoy driving to 10 or 15 albums that I’ve ripped onto a jump drive to be played in my car. All three speeding tickets of occurred in San Diego County and listening to Graceland; obviously a bad combination! Driving home tonight at 12:45 in the morning on rocking out […]

To be honest it’s a massive distraction from my work life, which is why my wife allows for it. I work in 2 of the highest acuity settings for mental health and am a front line provider of mental health services. (The two setting are a prison in California and a large community hospital’s emergency department). Over the course of my life, I’d drink too much and worked too much and I find the latter to be a vastly more healthy behavior. The idea of Ampsandsound as a company is a way for me to not be continuously losing money […]

Hey there everyone! I wanted to bring some attention to the work I’ve being doing for the past 6 months. Ive been a bit more absent here, though have been moding and building at an even faster rate. At the gentle and not so gentle prodding of a few forum members I started an audio company. The support of the many DIY forums I’m a member of including Klipsch forum here has been instrumental in shaping both my technical understanding, values and principals I have sought in my love of music and attention to detail. I’ve only owned 3 true […]
